STUDIO
Audio Software
As a great supporter of open source software projects,I found my perfect audio software environment in the Ubuntu Studio. Ubuntu Studio provides a ready to go LINUX based package that you can download and install on any decent laptop or computer. I must admit that working in a LINUX environment requires a bit of knowledge of the operating system, but on the other hand it is extremely open and flexible and tons of products, plugins and tools are available for free.
The Software that I use on my productions are:
Ardour - A fantastic DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) with good online documentation and active user community. I use Ardour for multi-track mixing and mastering by utilising various amazing plugins. One particular plugin set worth mentioning is Calf Studio Gear, providing a wide range of excellent effect plugins, compressors, gates, limiters etc.
Audacity - Audacity is the mother of all free audio editing tools. It is a perfect tool for audio editing, cleaning up vocal tracks, noise removal, off-line compression and more
Welcome in "the Loft" my low-budget mobile home studio in France.
Monitor speakers
One of the major investments made for my home studio were the monitor speakers. After a lot of reading, watching reviews and talking to music friends I finally decided to buy the Kali LP-6 . For around €300 per pair it is a very good set of speakers with high accuracy. I haven't regretted my buy for a single moment.
